Upcoming Events: 11-10-08

10 11 2008

Love Songs for Haiti – Sunday, November 16 @ 7pm.

  • Where: E-Free Church in State College (Blue Course Ave)
  • When: 7pm-10pm (we’ll leave @ 9pm)
  • Carpool: Meet @ Snappy’s @ 6:30pm | Return @ 9:30pm.
  • Why are we doing this instead of youth group? One of our goals as a youth group is to get outside our walls err… curtains on Sunday Nights and do something that helps the poor and needy.  Haiti has been hit recently by multiple hurricanes, devastating what is already a very impoverished nation.  Love Songs For Haiti is a concert / coffee house event designed to raise awareness and motivate people to action to help this nation.  We have a very direct connection to Haiti through one of our SWAT members – Smith Paul – and through our home church PVCC.  This just makes sense for us.
  • Is this free? Yes.  And No.  It’s free to get in, but there will be multiple opportunities for you to get involved and sacrifice to help someone who is less fortunate than yourself

Day On the Couch Day: Monday, December 1st.

  • When: The monday after Thanksgiving
  • Where: Tim and Sarah’s place.
  • Time: 10am-6pm
  • What: Movies.  All day.
  • Why? We like movies – and there’s nothing to do on this day – might as well spend it together!
  • How do we choose the movies? We show NOTHING that is rated-R.  We are very careful about our PG-13 choices, and screen every movie for content.  Movies are suggested by students and screened by Tim and Sarah.  We try to get a mix of genres.

At SOS we’ll experience powerful worship, we’ll hear great messages, and then we’ll take it to the streets, serving the people of the Centre Region to show God’s love in practical ways. The goal of SOS is to give middle and high school students and opportunity to grow closer to God while developing a heart to serve those around them. We really believe that “Small Things Done With Great Love Will Change The World.” Over the course of the week students can expect to go on outreaches every day, making contact with people who are crying out for God’s love.

Cost: $135 (Early Bird Rate – Deadline July 1)

Senior Trip: July 14-18 (Mon-Fri)

Sr. High Retreat Recap!

14 04 2008

Wow, so we’re back!  That was a pretty cool retreat.  I thought the speakers were right on, and the worship was good.  But what absolutely blew me away was seeing all of you gathered around on the uncomfortable couches Saturday night and just praying for each other.

I could really feel God moving, and I know you were wrestling with Him while you prayed for each other.  It was definitely the coolest moment for me.  Props to SWAT for totally representing in the 3-on-3 tourney too!

Now is probably about that time when reality hits you in the face.  You were dealing with some stuff, and it was very real stuff, but now life just seems back to normal.  I just want to encourage you that what happened this past weekend was very real, and it’s not the end.  God wants your heart this week just like he had it this past weekend.

What that means:  We have to get away, steal moments throughout the week to be with Him and get quiet. It’s easy at a retreat when there isn’t anything else around, but it’s SO hard back at school and home where you have commitments, worries, struggles, and basically life stuff.

My encouragement to you is 1 Peter 5:6-8

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Remember to steal moments this week to just be with Him.  He will continue the work He started in you this weekend, He always does.

Live, Pray, Love,
Tim
